Overview

Liquivite is a liquid food which is used for sick or convalescing dogs or as a weaning food for young puppies.

Liquivite both feeds and rehydrates the sick, convalescent, post-operative or anorexic cat or dog, which cannot or will not take solids or drink liquids

Liquivite is smooth enough for syringe feeding when appetite is absent, and readily consumed as appetite returns. Importantly, Liquivite helps to replace fluid when dehydration has occurred, or is a risk.

Liquivite contains fish oil, supplying Omega 3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA, which boost the immune system and are anti-inflammatory.

A pre-biotic is included, to feed the beneficial bacteria in the gut.

Rosemary, a natural anti-oxidant, is also added, as is yeast and Essential vitamins and minerals.

Levels of vitamins and minerals meet the requirements of the cat or dog when under stress conditions.

The meats, eggs, milk and yeast provide a balanced amino acid profile in a readily assimilated peptide form.

The yeast also contributes B vitamins content and is a source of nucleotides.

The natural anti-oxidant has a two-fold role, firstly preserving the food against fat oxidation, and then once absorbed act in the animal's body to protect it against free radicals.

The pre-biotic, Profeed, promotes the beneficial bacterial population of the intestine.

Cereals, poorly utilised by dogs, and especially by cats, are not included in Liquivite.

Of the copper inclusion, 30% is chelated, to make it more available to the animal.

Taurine is added, particularly important in perfecting eyesight in cats.

Chronic Renal Failure ( CRF )

Liquivite is not specifically designed as a renal diet, but is suitable for use with Cats and Dogs suffering from chronic renal failure ( CRF ).

Cats and dogs with CRF can only have their symptoms managed, partly through diet.

Dehydration is a common symptom, and it is essential to maintain water intake.

Cats naturally take in much of their water requirement from their food, rather than drinking, so canned foods such as Liquivite are suited to cat nutrition.

Liquivite has a much higher 90% moisture level  so helps maximise liquid intake while still feeding the animal.

The Protein level in Liquivite is low, relative to its high moisture content, a necessary requirement for cats and dogs with CRF, and Liquivite’s protein sources are good quality chicken meat, chicken liver, milk and eggs.

To compensate for lower protein intake, Liquivite has a higher fat level, with significantly more of its calories coming from the fat content than from the protein, and Liquivite’s fat is high in polyunsaturates.

The Phosphorus level also needs to be low, and Liquivite’s, on a Dry Matter basis is only 0.75%. Liquivite is also supplemented with B group vitamins at significant levels.

Feeding Directions

Amounts to feed reflect Liquivite's higher moisture content and its role in re-hydrating as well as feeding the sick cat or dog.

For cats, introduce at 100g per kg of bodyweight; increase by 50% as appetite returns. For small breeds of dogs introduce at 100g per kg of bodyweight, for medium breeds at 80g, and for large breeds at 60g. Increase by 50% as appetite returns.

These directions are given on the labels, as are amounts to feed the weaning kitten or puppy.

Liquivite also freezes well, allowing its use over a period of time, for example where small daily amounts are needed for the weaning kitten or puppy.

Freeze Liquivite in serving-sized amounts.

When required, defrost and allow to return to room-temperature, stir well, and feed as normal.
