Farmina N&D Quinoa Urinary is a complete dietetic food for cats, suggested for the reduction of struvite stone recurrence and feline lower urinary tract disease. Farmina Quinoa Urinary contains a Urinary pH regulator to help maintain optimum pH for proper dissolution of crystals, with urinary acidifying substances: Ammonium chloride and DL-methionine. It contains Cranberry and Chamomile to raise the urine acidity to help to treat and prevent UTI’s, and also glucosamine and chondroitin which are common joint supplements but may also help to rebuild the bladder wall, prevent further damage from bacteria and reduce inflammation.
There are two common urinary issues in cats: Urinary Tract infections (UTI’s) and struvite stone build up. UTI’s are very common in cats, caused by bacteria entering the urinary tract, whereas, urinary crystals are caused when there are more waste materials than can be dissolved in the urine. Often, if the cat has a perfectly healthy urinary tract, then these crystals can be passed out before they become big enough to cause a problem. When this does not happen, crystals can join to form larger stones which may restrict the outflow of urine, causing pain and a build-up of waste. Worst case, a full blockage may occur. As it is harder for struvite crystals to grow in an acidic environment, and for bacteria to survive, a more acidic urinary tract can help to treat these conditions, but also, prevent these issues from reoccurring.
